One of the most respected performers, teacher and scholar of Bharatnatyam, Kalashree Guru Jayashankar Menon, was born in the year 1944, in Irinijalakuda near Trichur in Kerala. After a fairly long sting in Kathakali under Guru Kalamandalam Karunakaran, Shri Jayashankar Menon learnt the fundamentals of Bharatanatyam from Guru Paramashivam. He underwent systematic training in Bharatanatyam under the late Guru Govindarajan who was a great music composer, lyricist, choreographer and a conscientious teacher, with whom Shri Menon had a magnificent association for over a couple of decades. He has brought in several innovations, unique personality and individually through in-depth research in Bharatanatyam.
